COACHES AND PARENTS FREE!!

We all share basic needs to feel competent, to experience some success, to believe we are worthy individuals. In our society we quickly learn that our worth depends largely on our ability to achieve. Consequently, participation in sports is potentially threatening to athletes because they equate their achievement with their self-worth. To win is to be successful, to be competent, to be a worthy person; to lose is to be a failure, to be incompetent, to be unworthy. Now pair this up with a game like baseball that is full of failure. How can we remain confident in the face of failure?

Hint: Help your athletes focus on achieving personal goals, not winning, and they’ll be less anxious and have less fear of failure. CONFIDENCE IS NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU GET – IT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE.
